  Haitoglou Bros S.A.

 

Haitoglou Bros is a family business established in Thessaloniki in 1924. It started its operations as a small sized company situated at the center of the city. In 1930, the business obtains the first factory and becomes an industry, according to the standards of that time. In 1962 Kalochori district of Thessaloniki was selected as the new main location of the company. In 1974 the company adopted an exporting orientation, with main exporting product the “Macedonian Halva”, which made its debut appearance in the foreign markets. In 1994, the year of the 70th anniversary since the establishment of Haitoglou Bros., the company operates a new, modern halva production plant. In 2002, a plant for the production of Viennesse wafers started its operation and so a new product is launched in a variety of flavours, under the brand name Twisties. Finally, in 2004 the operation of a new sesame processing plant begins and virgin sesame seed oil was produced in Greece for the first time ever.

Today, Haitoglou Bros, maintains as main location for its operation the district of Kalochori of Thessaloniki , and keeps producing traditional Greek products which are utterly compatible with the Mediterranean Diet.

The production plants place great emphasis upon the utilization of modern technology in order to ensure the quality of the final products. At the same time traditional methods of production are employed, wherever they are considered to be a critical factor in maintaining the authentic nature of the products. Finally, the fully equipped quality control laboratories provide the possibility of continuous control, both of the raw materials and the final products.

At the same time the company applies the product quality assurance system by ELOT (Greek Organisation for Standardisation) in accordance with EN ISO 9001 stipulations, an environmental management system also certified by ELOT in accordance with the EN ISO 14001 stipulations and the revolutionary HACCP, which more than satisfies the strictest international requirements for foodstuff industries.

The company employs approximately 500 people and through a well organized sales network, it promotes its products even to the most remote places of Greece , thereby maintaining a large market share.

Almost 40% of the production is exported all over the world, in countries such as America, Canada, Australia, EU countries, Russia, the market of the former Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Haitoglou Bros installed and applies:

  • The product quality assurance system by ELOT (Greek Organisation for Standardisation) in accordance with EN ISO 9001, with respect to the production process, raw ingredients and final products.
  • The environmental management system by ELOT in accordance with the EN ISO 14001

 

The Course of History

 

  • 1924: The Haitoglou company was established.
  • 1932: A new industrial installation is acquired in Damonos street, between the old and the new railway of Thessaloniki.
  • 1962: Kalochori district of Thessaloniki was selected as the new main location of the company.
  • 1974: The company obtains an orientation towards export, with “Macedonian Halva” as the main product, making it's debut in the foreign markets.
  • 1994: At the 70th birthday since its establishment, the company operates the new production plant for Halva, which is of the latest technology and covers 12.000sqm. During the same year, the company donates an experimental day nursery center to the community of Kalochori in an effort to contribute towards the welfare of the community.
  • 1997: A new product range is launched, the chocolate coated Halva. In the meantime Haitoglou Bros applies the product quality assurance system by ELOT (Greek Organisation for Standardisation) in accordance with EN ISO 9002 stipulations. The production units link up to the natural gas network making Haitoglou one of the first three companies in Greece to be linked with the natural gas network.
  • 2000: An environmental management system is applied, also certified by ELOT in accordance with the EN ISO 14001 stipulations.
  • 2002: A plant for the production of Viennese wafers starts its operation and a new product is launched under the brand name Twisties, in a variety of flavours. This line makes it's debut straight to the foreign markets.
  • 2003: An upgrade to the product quality assurance system is applied and the company is certified by ELOT in accordance with EN ISO 9001 stipulations.
  • 2004: The operation of a new sesame processing plant begins and virgin sesame seed oil is produced in Greece for the first time ever.
  • 2007: A new plant for the processing of Sesame and packing of Tahini starts its operation.
  • 2008: The Company obtains a unique international recognition for the Virgin Sesame Oil by the International Taste & Quality Institute, which is the leading independent Chef - and Sommelier- based organization dedicated to judging, awarding and promoting superior tasting food and drink from around the world. The ITQS granded the Virgin Sesame Oil with the Superior Taste Award 2008 in a special award ceremony in Brussels.
